About the book: 2010 / "Planiverse" is the only work of art by the famous Canadian mathematician, cybernetics and philosopher Alexander Kivatin Dewdney. Since its publication in 1984 year, “Planiverse” became a cult book following the classic work of the 19th century about the flat world - “Flatland” by Edwin Abbott. It’s 1981. A professor in the Department of Computer Science and a group of his advanced students wrote a program to simulate a two-dimensional world and populated it with 20 creatures. The simulator turned out to be so successful that in some incredible way it came into contact and synchronized movement with the real-life 20-universe, and on the monitor screen, replacing the simulated ones, real flat creatures came to life. This flat world is called Arde and exists in the two-dimensional flat universe Planiverse. The professor and his students enter into a kind of telepathic contact with a being they call Yendred, a philosophical Ardian. Yendred embarks on a journey from end to end of the only continent of the two-dimensional world to learn more about the mysterious philosophy of the inhabitants of its eastern edge. A puzzle that requires considerable mental effort, the story is challenging and delightful at the same time - it excites the imagination and allows you to imagine how it really can live two dimensional world.
