About the book: 2006 / The 900 days of the siege of Leningrad are moving further and further away from us. As everyday life progresses, the events of the blockade are rethought, and the very knowledge about these events changes. In memory of the Leningrad blockade, large-scale structures were erected in Soviet times - architectural and sculptural complexes. They continue to be installed even now, although modern conditions dictate slightly different approaches to works of monumental art. The construction of a memorial complex has always been a notable event in the life of the city. Such complexes are rare and stand out against the backdrop of much more numerous monuments dedicated to individual events and heroes of the siege. These sculptural compositions, statues, busts, and memorial plaques are smaller in scale and chamber-shaped. Sometimes gardens, parks, necropolises, and memorial signs that served similar memorial purposes were equated with works of plastic art. However, not they, but large memorial complexes dedicated to the siege of Leningrad, are the primary subject of our interest.
