The source of the book was the fundamental multi-volume work on the geography and history of Russia “Russia. A complete geographical description of our fatherland,” created over many years at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. edited by P. P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky (vol. 7 – “Little Russia”, St. Petersburg, 1903, and 14 – “Novorossiya and Crimea”, St. Petersburg., 1910).
