MediaDB / «Kings of Cyprus in the era of the Crusades" Svetlana Bliznyuk: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2014 / The work is dedicated to the era of the Crusades from the end of the 11th century. until the end of the 15th century. It examines the reasons for the appearance in the history of Western Europe of such phenomena as the Crusades and the Crusader Movement, and explains the differences between the Crusades of 1096–1291. and the crusades of the 14th–15th centuries. The main attention is paid to the fate of the Lusignan family, whose representative Guy de Lusignan founded a new state and a new royal dynasty in Cyprus in 1192. The kings of Cyprus, who ruled the island from 1192 to 1489, were active participants in the crusader movement during the Middle Ages. Particular attention is paid to two representatives of the dynasty, extraordinary personalities and key figures of the Crusades - the kings of Cyprus Hugo IV and Pierre I of Lusignan. The name of Hugo IV is largely associated with changes in the policy of the Crusaders in the East, and the name of Pierre I is associated with the storming and capture of Alexandria. Hugo IV and Pierre I appear before the reader not only as warriors, but also as statesmen, as diplomats and overlords of their vassals, as knights of the “Beautiful Lady” and intellectuals. Most of the work is occupied by the author’s translation of the Cypriot chronicle by Leontius Mahera “The Tale of the Sweet land of Cyprus" - a fundamental source that tells in the first and second books about the history of Cyprus from the founding of the Lusignan kingdom to the reign of Pierre I Lusignan.
