About the book: year / The three-volume collected works of the great Russian historian S.M. Solovyov (1820–1879) offered to the attention of readers include those that have not been reprinted since their first publication of the author’s work, or those of his works, the number of reprints of which over the last hundred years is such that they still remain unknown to the mass audience. When selecting materials for the three-volume work, the compilers, first of all, sought to be as complete as possible (of course, with taking into account the compactness of this publication) to present S.M. Solovyov’s views on various problems of Russian history, starting from the era of Kievan Rus and ending with the reign of Emperor Alexander I. At the same time, if possible, the chronological principle of distribution of the selected material of the first, second and third volumes was observed. The research works of S.M. Solovyov are preceded by his autobiographical notes, allowing the reader to look at the personality of the great historian with his own eyes. The publication is provided with commentaries and opens with an introductory article containing a brief description of the scientific heritage of S.M. Solovyov.
