About the book: 1995 / Thirty-three chapters of the book tell about the political and administrative institutions of St. Petersburg, about its social and cultural life, about the life of the court and higher light, about how the city changed, its architectural appearance, what everyday life, activities and morals of the townspeople were like. In six essays “From the St. Petersburg Chronicle”, supplementing the main narrative, the history of the most significant days in the fate of the capital is given. The book is illustrated with engravings and lithographs , drawings and paintings of the Pushkin era, as well as fragments of the “Detailed plan of the capital city of St. Petersburg”, made in 1828 by the famous military topographer General F. Schubert. The publication is equipped with address and topographical indexes.
