Julius studied at the Vienna Academy of Arts and spent a lot of time in Italy, where he painted one of the halls of the Marquis Massimi’s villa with frescoes depicting scenes from Roland the Furious. In 1827, he became a professor of historical painting at the Munich Academy, and his frescoes decorated the palace of Ludwig I. But he gained great fame and popularity, both in Germany and in other countries, thanks to the most important work of his life - elegant, spiritual engravings , his famous illustrations for the Bible.
