About the book: 1962 / Yaroslav Aleksandrovich Galan (1902–1949) - an outstanding Ukrainian writer and journalist. He devoted his entire life to serving the party and the people. He took an active part in the activities of the group of Western Ukrainian revolutionary writers “Gorno”, and in 1936 in the organization of the anti-fascist congress of cultural figures in Lviv. During the Great Patriotic War, the All-Ukrainian Radio Station named after T. G. Shevchenko, which broadcast for Ukrainian population in temporarily occupied Ukraine and Poland. In 1942, the radio commentator at the station was Jaroslav Galan, who spoke at the microphone every day. In bright, intelligible and convincing speeches and pamphlets, Yaroslav Galan exposed the bestial face of fascism and Ukrainian nationalists, the slander of Goebbels propaganda. These speeches by the writer were included in the books “The Front on the Air” (1943) and “With a Cross or a Knife” (1948). Galan, as a patriot, could not remain calm and waged an uncompromising fight against fascism and the OUN. He worked selflessly and a lot, giving his all. His sharp pamphlets hit without a miss. Even by the names you can feel their focus: “With a cross or a knife”, “What is Union”, “Twilight of foreign gods”, “Fathers of darkness and associates”, “In the service of Satan”, “Apostles of betrayal”, etc. His play “Under the Golden Eagle” did not leave the theatrical stage of Ukraine for many years. Galan showed how Melnik’s and Bandera’s supporters fought with each other for the right to be the first in the service of German fascism. He exposed OUN leaders who tried to deny the participation of the Abwehr in the creation of the UPA. Based on factual material, he revealed the crimes of the Nachtigal battalion, the role of the Uniate Church in the creation of the SS division "Galicia". The writer was killed on October 24, 1949 by two Bandera militants, allegedly on the personal instructions of former Hauptmann Roman Shukhevych. Judging by the execution (eleven blows to the head with an ax!), the bandits were afraid of him (and their last ones are still afraid of him) much more than the NKVD.
