Evgenia Borisovna Polskaya (nee Merkulova) was born in Stavropol on April 21, 1910 in a family of Terek Cossacks. Her husband Leonid Nikolaevich Polsky (b. 1907) was the son of the Stavropol priest Nikolai Dmitrievich Polsky. In 1942, after the German occupation, the Polish spouses, among many thousands of Cossack families, left for the west. In 1945 they were forcibly “repatriated” back to the USSR, like the Vlasovites. And although they did not participate in hostilities against the “allies,” Evgenia Borisovna received 7 years in the camps, her husband - 10. Towards the end of her life, she wrote the memoirs “This is us, Lord, before You...”, in which she describes the post-war tragedy of the Cossacks , and with him the entire Russian people, all of Russia... Evgenia Polskaya died on January 18, 1997.
