About the book: 1983 / The reasons for the emergence of geographical names are diverse, just as the history of the development of our civilization itself is diverse. The roots of the origin of most of them go back to the distant past and are associated with a number of circumstances: with the peculiarities of the language inherent in certain peoples living in a given area, with historical events that contributed to the emergence of the name, and sometimes with curious accidents. There are, as a rule, several versions - of varying degrees of persuasiveness - of the origin of the name, and therefore giving preference to any one of them is not an easy matter. Often this question remains open, and it is precisely this circumstance that attracts even more to toponymy - the science of geographical names, where there are still many unresolved problems.
