About the book: 2015 / The events of Lena Eltang's new novel take place on the Italian coast, in the scenery of the Briatico Hotel - a snow-white hotel on the top of a hill, a family estate surrounded by vineyards. Circumstances bring here characters connected by invisible threads: a writer who has lost the ability to write, a college student who has lost her brother, an heir who has lost his estate, and a murderer who turned the comedy of errors that played out on the stage of Briatico into an ancient tragedy. Eltang returns to Russian prose a long-forgotten hero: sensible, but full of recklessness, a courageous, secretive man with a heightened sense of self-worth. The novel is multi-layered, polyphonic and full of dramatic coincidences, but there is not a single circumstance in it that can be called accidental, and not a single knot that one would not want to immediately untie.
