About the book: 1973 / This collection of works and letters of Saltykov-Shchedrin, in which the experience and materials of the previous edition are critically used, is being carried out taking into account the latest achievements of Soviet Shchedrin studies. The collection is the most complete of all existing ones and includes all the currently known works of the writer, both completed and unfinished. The cycle “Poshekhonsky Stories” first appeared in “Notes of the Fatherland” in 1883–1884, signed: “N. Shchedrin." The collection “Unfinished Conversations” consists of ten essays and articles. The first nine first appeared under different names and signatures in Otechestvennye zapiski 1873–1884.
