Despite the fact that Jonah lived seven hundred years earlier than Christ and, therefore, was a pagan, Jesus Christ spoke very respectfully about the prophet Jonah to his disciples in his time: “...For just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights, so and the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights" (Matthew 12:40).
