His adventures take him to the Spine of the World, where his path crosses that of a young woman who has entered into a marriage of convenience with the local nobleman, but is expecting a child from her lover. She points to Wulfgar as the father of the child and thus involves him in another whirlwind of vicissitudes and adventures, in search of the truth and in an attempt to forget the past. Despite the dangers, Wulfgar will survive to win the most valuable prize - a man he thought was lost forever. When Drizzt finds a scar from the great warhammer Shieldtooth on the back of a ferocious criminal, he can no longer hope that Wolfgar is safe. The dark elf and his friends set out to find the barbarian once and for all. And as they piece together the puzzle that has plagued them for so long, Drizzt's determination to find him grows stronger. Meanwhile, Wulfgar sails with Captain Dudermont and in turn searches for the stolen Shieldtooth, which is in the hands of the evil pirate Sheila Kree. But she's not just waiting to be caught either, she has other plans...
