About the book: 1969 / The plot of the novella is taken from the “old chronicle”, from the story of a school teacher of the second half of the 16th century, Peter Gaftitz, about the historically real person Hans Kohlhaase (Hans Kohlhase). He was a wealthy merchant from Brandenburg, from whom, on the orders of the Saxon junker Gunther von Zaschwitz, two horses were taken away. Hans Kohlhase tried to recover damages through the courts, but failed. Then, having gathered around him other dissatisfied people, he declared war on his oppressor, and at the same time on all of Saxony with its unjust justice. Notes by A. Levinton. Illustrations by B.
