About the book: 2002 / This book contains the most complete text of the famous memoirs of Nikolai Ivanovich Grech (1787–1867) - journalist and publisher, writer and philologist, Corresponding Member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, prepared by combining the text of the book of 1886 (there were censorship removals) and 1930 (the notes there were restored from the manuscript, but other abbreviations were made). The features of the author's style have been preserved, but the spelling and punctuation are close to modern ones. “Notes on My Life” is a valuable contribution to memoir literature of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Catherine, Paul, Alexander I, Arakcheev, Speransky and Magnitsky - on the one hand, the uprising in the Semenovsky regiment and the Decembrists - on the other, and, finally, a number of prominent literary figures: Derzhavin, Zhukovsky, Pushkin, Senkovsky, Voeikov, Bulgarin - that’s it circle of people and events covered by the Notes. This text is compiled from three editions of the Notes, 1990, 2000, 2002.
