About the book: 2021 / This book is dedicated to South Indian temple architecture. It talks about how, under what conditions and according to what principles the birth of the temple takes place - as an architectural idea and as a specific structure, questions are considered (mainly on Tamil material) concerning the origin and development of the temple, the main stages and principles of its construction (with special attention paid to the creation of the vastupurusha mandala and construction rituals), the structure of temple complexes and the symbolism of architectural elements (in particular, it talks about the levels of perception of the temple), the worldview of builders and customers, as well as some aspects of iconography, rules for making and classifying Hindu murtis gods in whose honor temples are built.
