MediaDB / «Shadow of the Gods" by John Gwynne: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2023 / When the gods start a war, there is no place for trifles. A century later it still echoes. The losers go along the road of souls with the dead, the winners challenge fate. The Orca warrior dreams of embarking on the path of revenge. The daughter of a noble earl, Elvar, craves glory on the battlefield, and the former slave Varg is looking for his sister’s killer. One day the fate of an entire world, harsh, merciless, darkened by the shadow of the gods, will be in their hands. This century will become a century of storms and murders. This is a saga soaked in blood. Author's Note This first book in the Saga of the Bloodthirsty series was a lot of fun to write. Norse mythology and history have fascinated me for as long as I can remember, and this series is my artistic declaration of love for it. Ever since I discovered the retelling of Beowulf when I was probably nine or ten years old, I have been fascinated by this unique sense of the north, its mystery, its tragedy, its darkly comical view of the gods and humanity, and, of course, the cruel, pragmatic, yet epic battles. Perhaps this goes some way to explaining why I am now reconstructing Viking culture. I am the kind of person who enjoys standing in a shield wall with my sons to the right and left. This book is essentially inspired by both Beowulf and Ragnarok, that battle of the end of days in which the gods fell and the world was created anew. Who is this book for? For those who love large-scale epic fantasy sagas. For fans of Robin Hobb, Bernard Cornwell, Joe Abercrombie, Joanne Harris and Ted Williams. For those who are interested in Norse culture and mythology. For readers who love fast-paced plots and epic battles .Published in Russian for the first time.
