He was born in 1904 in the village of Bolshoye Boldino, Gorky region, into a poor peasant family. In 1925 he became a member of the CPSU. For more than 15 years he worked in the editorial offices of newspapers and magazines. During the Great Patriotic War he was at the front. In 1949 he graduated from the Academy of Social Sciences, then worked as a researcher at the Institute of World Literature. I. V. Vostryshev’s book “In Winter in Podlipki” is dedicated to collective farm life and the destinies of people in a modern village.
