About the book: 2020 / The article discusses various aspects of the perception of the personality and creativity of I.S. Turgenev Mark Aldanov. Turgenev's reception in Aldanov's work has been studied diachronically: from the mention of characters in the novels "Rudin" in the journalistic book "Armageddon" to reviews of publications of Turgenev's works in the emigrant press and critical assessments in the philosophical dialogues "Ulm Night". The reasons for Aldanov's irony in relation to some of Turgenev's works, called the “chocolate factory,” are explored. Aldanov tries to be an objective, reasoned critic, while he compares the shortcomings of Turgenev’s style with the advantages of L.N.’s style. Tolstoy. At the same time, Aldanov experiences the “failures” of Turgenev, highly appreciating him as a writer among the five best authors of the “golden” age of Russian literature, as an original European intellectual. Aldanov mentions Turgenev in journalism, criticism, correspondence, uses Turgenev motifs and quotes in his fiction. The article describes the novels “The Tale of Death”, “Delusion”, “Suicide”, in which Turgenev’s biography and images of Turgenev’s works are integrated into the life of Aldanov’s fictional characters. The kindness, morality of the heroes of Turgenev's works, the delicacy of the writer's artistic expression are included in the moral world of the characters in the novels of Aldanov, who for almost 40 years quoted the works and letters of Turgenev, used the images of his novels and stories to express his own aesthetic assessment.
