Princess Ukoka (or Altai princess, Kadyn) became the prototype of Princess Kadyn. The mummified body of a girl was found in 1993 by Novosibirsk archaeologists on the Ukok plateau in the Altai Republic. Its age is three thousand years, and this find is one of the most significant discoveries of Russian archeology of the late 20th century. For Altai people who profess shamanism, Kadyn is a deeply revered foremother, a national symbol.
