About the book: year / The theme of the work offered to the reader is a child and war. This is a story about one day that coincided with the boy’s birthday and became His Birthday. The main thing in the text is not the description of events, but the flow of the child’s impressions in dramatic, extremely tense circumstances. In these circumstances, the child’s consciousness shifts (which is quite understandable) beyond the boundaries of the real, into the impossible, into the phantasmagoria. These are the nursery rhymes here, the devils playing the balalaikas; a procession of stoves through a burnt village, a boy playing with the sun; dreams, visions of a child, etc. All this determines, in the author’s opinion, the metaphorical nature and multi-layered nature of the text of the work.
