About the book: year / A manual for the development of speaking skills, created by the authors V.V. Voitenok and A.M. Voitenko, has stood the test of time (the first edition 1961): many generations of students, students and teachers have had the opportunity to appreciate this book. "Conversational English" consists of two parts and an application. The first part contains 16 chapters, in which words and figures of speech used in conversation on everyday topics are grouped thematically. In some cases, the assignment of material to one section or another is very conditional. For example, information about clothing is contained in the chapters “Clothing” and “Shopping”. As a rule, these cases are specified in the book. The second part of the book contains phrases and sayings related to the sphere of human emotions. The appendix contains texts and dialogues related to the corresponding sections of the first part. Words and figures of speech were selected based on the principle of their use in oral speech situations, which are characterized by neutral and colloquial speech styles. The possible scope of use of a particular phrase and its stylistic coloring should be judged on the basis of a comparison of Russian and English texts (the authors sought to achieve maximum stylistic adequacy of these texts). When working with the manual under the guidance of a teacher, a wide variety of types and types of exercises commonly used in teaching oral speech in English can be used. The standard texts and dialogues placed in the application will help diversify the forms of work and achieve more effective results. The manual is intended for secondary school teachers, students of language universities, as well as for specialists studying English. It may be useful to persons wishing to deepen their knowledge of spoken English.
