About the book: year / An erudite and incomparable expert on legends, myths and beliefs of various peoples, Parnov was a tireless traveler, especially attracted to South and Central Asia, where he made his way to inaccessible places of the Himalayas and Tibet. On many trips he was helped by a travel certificate from Literaturnaya Gazeta, for which he worked as a special correspondent in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Even earlier, Parnov was a correspondent for Pravda in Vietnam, spending a total of one and a half years there. He wrote science fiction mainly in the 1960s in collaboration with Mikhail Yemtsev. Perhaps their best work is the story “The Soul of the World,” published in English with a foreword by Theodore Sturgeon, who called it “extraordinary.” The Clute and Nichols Encyclopedia notes that it "combines Frankensteinian horrors with nuanced meditations on collective consciousness." He was proud that he predicted the neutron bomb 13 years before its creation. Parnov became most famous for the trilogy about Inspector Lusin, which included the novels “The Casket of Marie de Medici” (1972), “The Third Eye of Shiva” (1975), “The Alexandrian Gemma” (1991, a shortened version called “The Maltese Rod” was published in 1987) . In these action-packed works, the main character, criminal investigation officer Lyusin, with the participation of his friend, historian and writer Berezovsky, investigates mysterious crimes in which the mysteries of history are mysteriously intertwined with modernity. In the 1990-2000s, Parnov continued primarily the line of his work begun with the book “The Throne of Lucifer” (according to Orthodox circles, “a veiled textbook of occultism”).
