MediaDB / «The Manchester Party" Nicholas Blincoe: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2008 / "The Manchester Party" - as always with Blincoe, the novel is very vital, a kind of social cross-section of modern subculture, the pretext for which is a detective plot. The action takes place in two time layers. Manchester investigator Davey Green (a sort of Zheglov minus romance plus slickness and a peculiar dorkish sense of humor) comes to London and makes Jake, the casino manager, an offer that he cannot refuse. The fact is that in the early 80s, Jake was Green's informant. And now it’s time to repay the favor. The layer of “present” is interspersed with scenes from the past of Jake and his friends. Time and morals are depicted very clearly and reliably, it makes you shiver, but not from detective intrigue, but from a masterful description of the ills of modern society, where the concepts of good/bad are so intertwined that you can’t always tell.
