The action of the novel "Love in the Rain" takes place in the late 60s - the early 70s, during difficult war times for Egypt. During that period, despite the truce declared after the June war, skirmishes between Egyptian and Israeli troops took place every now and then in the Suez Canal zone. Egypt was subjected to brutal raids by enemy aircraft, its front-line cities, abandoned by their inhabitants, lay in ruins. Although the novel does not describe military operations, it is completely imbued with a thunderous, alarming military atmosphere. The novel poses moral and ethical problems - loyalty and duty, love and betrayal - arising from the relationships of the heroes, but its main internal task is to show how different layers relate Egyptian society to the war, to its responsibilities to the homeland in the hour of difficult trials that befell it.
