About the book: 2021 / Sonnet 2 is one of 154 sonnets written by the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare. Sonnet 2 is part of the “Marriage Sonnets” group. According to the version put forward in the previous translation of Sonnet 18, the group of “Wedding Sonnets” includes sonnets 1-18. Because sonnet 18 was dedicated to a young girl, presumably related to the sonnet's author, and engaged to the young man who is the recipient of the "Fair Youth" sonnet sequence. In the phrase “until your calling grows old,” the narrating bard ironically hinted at the numerous novels of “a young man with women. Of course, by the “calling” of the addressee of the sonnet, the author meant his ability to seduce young women. In the widely used English of the Elizabethan era, the expression “sum my count” meant the “numerous premarital affairs” of the young man, that is, the addressee of sonnet 2. In line 14, the author, using the literary device of time inversion, sends the young man into the future : “And you see how your blood warms up when you feel it cold.” The phrase “when you feel it, you are cold” means “when you grow old.” However, there remains the consolation of “seeing how your blood is warming” when looking at the offspring - this is your child. The very thought of beautiful and healthy offspring warms the soul and body.
