About the book: 1992 / "Batum" is a little-known and last play by M. A. Bulgakov, written in 1939 before a serious illness. The main source for the creation of the play "Batum" served as the book “Batumi Demonstration of 1902”, published in March 1937 and containing documents and memories of the first steps of I.V. Stalin in the revolutionary movement of Transcaucasia. Bulgakov had been thinking about the idea of a historical and biographical play about Stalin since 1935, when information about the early period of Stalin's activities in Transcaucasia and constant political persecution by the authorities. In July 1939, Bulgakov finished work on the text of the manuscript. The entire play, with significant amendments, abbreviations and additions, was reprinted in full under the dictation of the author. This copy of the typescript can be considered as the main author's copy of the play "Batum", authentic to the official copies transferred to the management of the Moscow Art Theater and the Main Repertoire Committee. In this volume, "Batum" is printed from this copy (GBL, f. 562, k. 14, item. 9), verified with typewritten copies of the play available in the Moscow Art Theater Museum and TsGALI..
