About the book: 1997 / "Roads of Freedom" (1945-1949) - Sartre's unfinished tetralogy, this is "The Age of Maturity", "Delay", "Death in the Soul." Excerpts from the unfinished fourth volume were published in the journal Tan Moderne in 1949. The first two novels provide a picture of pre-war France, the third describes the defeat of 1940 and the beginning of the Resistance. The main provisions of Sartre's existentialist philosophy, primarily his doctrine of freedom, authenticity and inauthenticity of human existence, are embodied in the character and actions of the main characters of the tetralogy.
