Morgan, in which he summarized the results many years of research into the history, social system, life, material and spiritual culture of a number of tribes of North American Indians and laid the foundations of ethnographic science. The monograph shows the disastrous consequences of capitalist colonization for the American aborigines. The doctrine of the clan system, set out in expanded form by L. G. Morgan in subsequent works, was subsequently summarized by F. Engels in his classic work “The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State.” Afterword and notes by N. B. Ter-Akobyan.
