About the book: 2008 / The Anthology of Contemporary British Drama contains for the first time the works of the most significant authors living and working today, both venerable and young, who have gained recognition literally in recent years. Among them are such names as Caryl Churchill, Mark Ravenhill, Martin McDonagh, David Harower, whose plays have been performed in Russian theaters for many years, and new names for our country: David Greig, Leo Butler, Marina Carr. The anthology presents a variety of themes, genres and styles - from black comedy to psychological drama, from philosophical and social dystopia to philosophical and poetic parable. The translations were made within the framework of a specially organized seminar, where special attention was paid to meaning and style, so the Russian texts are as close as possible to the English original. An anthology of contemporary British drama will be of interest to both theater audiences and the general public.
