MediaDB / «Danton's case. Stage chronicle." Stanislava Przybyszewska: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2016 / “The Danton Case” (1929) – the pinnacle of Przybyszewska’s work, the main part of a kind of dramatic “revolutionary trilogy”, which also includes the one-act “The Ninety-Third Year” and unfinished Thermidor. At the center of this drama is the confrontation between two exceptional personalities: the incorruptible Robespierre and the corrupt Danton. In the first, Przybyszewska saw an almost perfect embodiment of her concept of genius, in the second - a renegade genius who preferred personal gain to serving an idea. Drawing on extensive historical research, Przybyszewska offers a brilliant analysis of the mechanisms of revolution and political power. During the author's lifetime, the play was staged twice. The revival of interest in it was largely facilitated by Andrzej Wajda, who staged “The Danton Affair” on stage in 1975, and in 1983 released the film “Danton,” based on the play.
