About the book: 1955 / This collection is a reissue of the collection "Slovak fairy tales", published by Goslitizdat in 1949 and again in 1950. The translation was reviewed and clarified again. The collection is based on the five-volume “Collection of Slovak Fairy Tales” (1923-1931, St. Martin Turchansky). From this huge collection are taken the best examples of all genres of Slovak fairy tales: heroic, magical, everyday, comic, tales about animals. They are joined by legends about the folk hero Janosik, taken from the same publication and from some others.
