About the book: 1980 / The fifth edition of my novel "The Path to Sofia" in Bulgarian, dedicated to the centenary of the liberation of Bulgaria as a result of the Russian-Turkish war, obliges me draw the reader's attention to some points of historical authenticity. Due to the fact that the novel does not reflect the described events like a mirror, with absolute accuracy, but recreates them in artistic form, individual images - Leander Leger (Le Gue), Saint-Clair, Shakir Pasha - received a free, collectively typified interpretation. As for the dramatic events of history - the pronounced polarization of forces, the diplomatic moves of Western states, the suffering that befell the inhabitants of Sofia, and, first of all, the unparalleled heroism of the liberating brothers - when reproducing them, I observed historical and artistic authenticity with a great sense of responsibility.
