About the book: 2002 / The main character of the play, Karl, as we learn later, is an emigrant from Europe. It is unknown exactly which country he came from. However, at the very beginning of the play, Karl is a typical representative of the class of wealthy singles who has finally waited his turn to buy an apartment in a prestigious building. His studio apartment amazes with its cleanliness and expensive things. However, nothing pleases the hero; he leads a boring, measured life as a wealthy New Yorker. In the play, America is presented as a soulless country of money, where they pay for everything, including a smile, polite treatment and a friendly look from the waiter. Consumed by debts, Karl does not find any way out of this situation. He turned into a typical American, Sam, whose life is measured by the thickness of his wallet. Karl dies under the wheels of a subway car.
