The Black Hawk War was the last of many wars with the Indians for control of the American Northwest. It ended with the mass migration of tribes of southeastern Indians (the so-called “Trail of Tears”) to the West, and served as a prelude to the wars with the Indians of the steppes for the possession of the far West of the United States.
