About the book: 1992 / The first volume of the Collected Works of the greatest English writer Graham Greene (1904–1991) includes three novels: “England Made Me” (1935), “The Brighton Lollipop” (1938) and “The Confidant” (1939). The novel “The Brighton Lollipop” was published by Heinemann in 1938. Green considered it one of his best books, although according to the writer’s recollections, it was not very popular at first success and the fee for it barely covered the debt to the publisher. In the novel, the author expresses a thought dear to him about the moral and religious value of purely human love, even if the latter came into conflict with the orthodox idea of love for God.
