About the book: 2022 / Lyrics in the qi genre of the Song era (X-XIII centuries) are one of the highest peaks of Chinese literature. Poetry came closer to feelings, discarded the constraining forms of canonical regular poems in the shi genre, and merged even more closely with music. Poetic texts of tsi were written to already known or new melodies and, acquiring musicality, were expressed by the intricate metering of lines, exquisite phonetic structure, thoughtful harmony of sounds, a flair of reticence, from the haze of which subtle hints and allusions emerged. Poetry of tsi was often translated into different languages, but the features forms and melodiousness were predominantly of a secondary nature and were not always reproduced, which caused significant damage to the overall harmonious sound of the work. This collection, consisting of one hundred poems by thirty-four poets, is the first most detailed selection in Russia, giving a reliable idea of the poetry of the Song era in genre.
