The book contains examples of folk art of Indians and Eskimos, black folklore, fairy tales, legends, ballads, songs of America from the time of the first settlers to the present day. The last section of the book includes contemporary songs by American folk singers. The authentic voices of America are represented here. They express the hopes and aspirations of the people, their natural optimism, their pain and despair from what is being and has been done by the forces of reaction and violence. The publication of this book is evidence of the ever-increasing cultural cooperation between the USSR and the USA, a manifestation of the mutual interest of the peoples of our countries in each other.
