About the book: year / The short stories of O. Henry (real name William Sydney Porter, 1862-1910) have been attracting the reader for a hundred years with good humor, optimism, love for the “little American,” arousing interest and sympathy for the ups and downs of life of clerks, saleswomen, tramps, unknown artists, poets, actresses, cowboys, small adventurers, farmers. A striking example of O. Henry’s original style is the story “Kings and Cabbages” (1904 ), consisting of adventurous and humorous short stories, the action of which takes place in Latin America, but instead of kings it has presidents, and instead of cabbage there are palm trees.
