    About the book: 2010 / Alfred Rambaud (1842-1905) - French historian, writer and statesman, foreign corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1876). Since 1881, professor at the Sorbonne. In 1895-1903. senator, 1896-1898 Minister of Public Education. Several times he was sent on a diplomatic mission to Russia. He paid special attention to political history (mainly Byzantium, Russia, Germany) and the history of international relations. Under his joint editorship with E. Laviss, the widely known multi-volume collective work “General History from the 4th Century to Our Time” was published (vols. 1–12, 1893–1901, the first 8 volumes were published in Russian translation in 1897–1903 under the same title) title; the last volumes of the French edition were published in Russian under the title "History of the 19th Century", vols. 1–8, 1905-1907). This volume presents Rambaud's novel "The Seal of Caesar", which tells about one striking episode from the history of Ancient Rome - the war waged by Julius Caesar against the Gallic tribes. The story is told from the perspective of a Gallic leader who roused the people to an unequal struggle with the Roman legions.
