    About the book: 1900 / Olivia Schreiner is a South African English-language writer. She was widely known in Russia: she was translated in “Picturesque Review of the Countries of the World”, “New Century”, “God’s World”, “Russian Wealth”, “Northern Lights”, “Bulletin of Foreign Literature”. Her books were published both in the edition “for intelligent readers” and in the mass series “Book by Book”. They came out both before the revolution and after, in the 20s. Maxim Gorky published an article about Olivia Schreiner in the Nizhegorodsky Listok newspaper back in 1899, having read what was published in 1899 by the S. Dorovatovsky and A. Charushnikov" with her book "Dreams and Dreams", republished by them in 1904. The same publishing house published her book “Woman and Labor” in 1912. The writer herself was interested in Russian culture and events in Russia: she appreciated I. S. Turgenev, responded to Bloody Sunday, the October Revolution: “A greater genius than Lenin has not appeared in the last century, with the exception of Karl Marx.” Her works are quoted and referenced by Mark Twain and H.G. Wells.
