MediaDB / Only one of the fleet survived - “Manjur”, the rest died, but not a single one subsequently sailed under the enemy’s flag. However, it was the gunboats of Port Arthur that were deprived of the attention of historians - a monograph by historian N.N. is dedicated to them. Afonin and a number of articles in periodicals. The book is beautifully published, contains valuable illustrative and factual material, but, unfortunately, describes their design, construction and service too briefly. In addition, the history of the design and construction of gunboats of the “Beaver”, “Koreets” and “Thundering” types was considered by PM Melnikov in his work “History of Domestic Shipbuilding” (St. Petersburg, 1996), but again very briefly. Therefore, the author will try in more detail describe the history of small heroic ships that served the Fatherland for a long time in the waters of the Pacific Ocean and found their grave there. At the same time, I would like to pay special attention to the actions of Russian gunboats during the suppression of unrest in China in 1900. The war in China was declared “unfair” and “aggressive” by Soviet historical science. The exploits of Russian officers, soldiers and sailors were forgotten for a long time, and the war itself was “virtually erased from people’s memory.””.
