Understanding full well that a girl not from their circle, who has no means, would happily agree to become the wife of the unsociable, gloomy Ulrich and share with him his reclusive life in the castle, the aunt herself invited Paula to become his bride. But... the girl refuses! How the further relationship of the heroes will develop, whether Ulrich will tell Paula about his secret that forced him to leave his native land, we will find out by reading the book.
