About the book: 2024 / An extraordinary, colorful story of the mythological heroes of Karelia. The most complete list of Karelian gods, some of which we know mainly from the immortal poem “Kalevala”. The list was compiled in the middle of the 16th century by Michael Agricola to condemn the pagan gods, but, unwillingly, he saved Ukko and Rauni, Pellonpekko and Egryas and others for us. Modern researcher Tatyana Berdasheva and artist Ekaterina Demakova talk about what these heroes are and how they still figure in the culture of the entire region.
