About the book: 1974 / In the story "The Divine Julius" an erudite antiquarian with an ironic mindset reconstructs and comments on the history of Caesar's struggle for power. Such a narrator-interpreter of the presented facts vividly and naturally talks with the reader, shares with him his observations, doubts and assumptions. Four chapters of the story demonstrate the methods by which Caesar established unlimited power and created a “divine aura” around himself: “cruelty”, “ mercy", "love", "hate". An ideal ruler, a wise leader, an observant psychologist, an expert on human characters, an excellent stylist, a devoted lover of Cleopatra, a handsome man, crowned with a laurel wreath... The darkness of brilliant qualities that created the legend of Julius Caesar. The antiquarian does not hide all this from the reader. But it also shows the other side of the “divine” face.
