About the book: 2016 / V. Cherkasov-Georgievsky's book "General Denikin" was written in the 1990s based on the latest research of the time, which allowed access to the widest use of memoir materials abroad after Perestroika, and personal meetings with former white officers and their closest relatives also provided invaluable assistance. The author’s constant trips to France, the USA, Western Europe, his interviews, conversations with living eyewitnesses of the Civil War, better than any photographs and yellowed forms, depicted the tragedy of the Civil War experienced by the Russians. In the book, A.I. Denikin appears in the most voluminous form: as a family man, as a writer, as a student at all stages of his career, starting with a real school. In the center is the image of the commander. Denikin here is, first of all, a man with all his characteristic features, shortcomings, and quirks. The thing was written not as a barracks-like account of military operations and circumstances, but as a smooth, fictional story about the life of this great Russian officer. Therefore, the book is interesting not only to people with a “military background”, but to any readers. The book “General Denikin” offered to your attention was written in the late 1990s, when the daughter of General A.I. Denikin, Marina Antonovna, a writer, journalist, TV presenter, was alive, author of unique memoir studies on white emigration. While working on the manuscript, the author repeatedly went to visit her in the town of Versailles near Paris, and corresponded from Moscow. Thanks to long conversations and explanations by A.I. Denikina, the author was able to “live” process the generally known material about the life of her father.
