Each of them entered into an agreement and gave up their soul in exchange for... however, each Faust has his own reasons for making a deal with Mephistopheles. There were few self-interested people among them. More often than not, they were guided solely by good intentions. Some thought that they would be able to compete with the ancient non-human mind and win the game, the last bet in which was death. However, in the finale, each of them discovered that they had lost the Great Game.
