About the book: 2003 / Virgilio Ferreira (1916–1997) is the largest Portuguese prose writer of the 20th century, a world-famous writer, author of dozens of novels, novellas, and short stories. The novel “In the Name of the Earth” was published in 1989. The hero of the book, finding himself at the end of his life in a nursing home, recalls the years he has lived. Freed from everyday worries, he slowly recalls every day he has lived in his memory. His thoughts are focused not only on real events, but also on the search for truth and its philosophical understanding.
