About the book: year / 1936. Soviet Russia set the goal of finally resolving the “religious question.” A group of military sappers, reinforced by special officers of the NKVD and the district representative for combating religion, arrives in the Voronezh village to stage a demonstrative explosion of a local Orthodox church. The event should take place in a solemn atmosphere and with a large crowd of people. But, strangely enough, just recently the populous village turned out to be practically lifeless. Where could all the people go? The coming night will give a terrible answer to this question.
